Sichuan Opera, one of the traditional Chinese operas in China’s intangible cultural heritage list, is popular in areas of southwest China’s Chongqing, Sichuan, Yunnan and Guizhou, where most inhabitants are ethnic Han people. In these photos, Sichuan Opera players dress up in costumes and perform to local people by the Yangtze River, even if there are only a few of them. When there are no audience, they would practice and rehearse, making every effort they can to make the opera alive.
