Keriyan Dwellings in China
2023-04-07 17:14:36

These photos were taken in the Taklimakan Desert. In a place called Daliyabuyi in Uyghur language at the lower reaches of Keriya River, there live a group of aboriginal Uyghur people who call themselves Keriyans. Their dwellings are built mainly with clay-covered branches of populus diversifolia and ammania gracilis as walls and reefs as roofs. The fences of their courtyards are also built with these branches. These simple and shabby dwellings, which are the results of the special natural environment and ecological conditions, are quite unique and full of local characteristics.
